Checking in

Fawlty Towers was a very popular British sitcom during the 1970s. The series is set in a hotel called Fawlty Towers, run by Basil Fawlty, the hotel manager/owner. Most funny situations happen due to communication problems with Manuel, the hotel waiter. He is Spanish and his English is not very good. In this episode, we listen to the hotel receptionist saying where Manuel is from. Can you tell me the name of the city? How would you describe the behaviour of Mrs Richards?

  5. Hi teacher, I have just seen the video and I find it hard to understand what they say because they speak too fast. I can see it's a hotel and Manuel is the bellboy.

  6. If you find it difficult to understand, maybe you need to watch it again. You know the first time you listen to something it's impossible to grasp everything. So try again, Aitor!!

  8. Hi teacher! Manuel is from Barcelona and the woman is too insupportable to me because she speaks like a posh person and I can't stand this kind of person! I think that we can saw some videos like it in class and speak about them twice a month for example.

  9. Hello teacher! I have just seen the video and it likes me very much. I think the old woman is annoying and rude. On the other hand, Manuel is a Spanish man and he's very funny because he doesn't speak English very good.

  11. Hi Noelia!
The beginning of the video it´s difficult because the recepcionist talk very fast. Manuel is the bellboy and the recepcionist said Manuel is the Barcelona and he doesn´t talk English very well, he says: "¿Que?".
In my opinion Mrs Richards is very rude.
